Affiliate marketing is my favorite source of income, if you can’t tell. I am one of those bloggers who are truly convinced that affiliate marketing is not exclusively intended for huge blogs, and that small bloggers can and should use it just as much. I even earned over $370 in my first month of blogging thanks to affiliate marketing!
The thing is, you have to know how to use affiliate marketing to be able to make money from it, especially if you have a small / new blog. And once you’ve learnt everything that there is to know about how to use it, you have to choose the right affiliate programs to monetize your blog!

Before we get to the list of affiliate programs that I am using to monetize my blog, you have to make sure that your blog is optimized for business and monetization, and go self-hosted.
The biggest mistake that new bloggers make, is to think that starting a free hosted blog is the right way to start. Well, let me tell you something; if there is one thing that I’ve learnt about business, it is that if you want your business to get you money at the end of the month, you have to put money into it first. If you want your biz to get you money at the end of the month, you have to put money into it first. I know, putting money into something when you’re not sure that it will work is a scary thought. But if you don’t, you can be sure that monetizing your blog with a free hosted blog will be much harder than it would be with a self-hosted blog. The small investment of going self-hosted is the most important one that you could ever make for your blog.
Here is why:
There are so many advantages in being self-hosted that will make your whole monetization process MUCH easier.
- You can make your blog more search-engine friendly by going self-hosted.
Meaning your blog is more likely to be seen by a wider audience. More traffic, more potential money.
- Self-hosted WordPress is far more customizable.
More themes, plugins, widgets, that will allow you to make your blog looks exactly the way you’d like, and help you guide your readers where you want them to go.
- If you are self-hosted, you own your content.
No more stressing over what you’re allowed to do or not on your blog, or if your blog is going to be deleted some reason (yes, this happens with free-hosted blogs).
- You can monetize your blog in any way you want with self-hosted blog.
With free-hosted blogs, there are restrictions when it comes to monetizing your blog. This is simply because free-hosted blogs were not made for those who want to turn their blog into a business, but for those who are blogging just for fun.
- You will have so much more credibility for any brand that could want to approach you.
Brands want to work with bloggers that are professional, and who take blogging seriously. By getting self hosted, you show them that your blog is a serious business, and not just a Sunday hobby.
Starting your own self-hosted blog is a small investment that will be quickly reimbursed with a monetization strategy. You can start a blog for as low as $3.95 per month with Bluehost, which is one of the most affordable and most chosen hosting companies in 2017.

The next step to making money with affiliate marketing, is to apply to affiliate programs!
Uuhhh can talk about Awin for a minute ?? Awin (or Affiliate Window) is a big affiliate network. They have Etsy, Missguided, and 6000+ other brands! You will necessarily find some brands that fit to you blog niche in there.
Awin is currently the affiliate network that gives me the most money. It is a must-join network for me!
Did you know that you could make money from your hosting company? Yes, you can get money for starting your blog! Most hosting companies have their own affiliate program. All you have to do, is to start a blog, and recommend your hosting company to others.
Bluehost for example has a great affiliate program that allows you earn a commission every time you refer someone. It is a great way to earn money when you’re just starting out- and even after! ShareASale is a major affiliate network, that is actually part of Awin. You cannot miss this one! I don’t know a single blogger who monetizes their blog with affiliate marketing and doesn’t use Shareasale. They work with So. Many. Brands. It’s insane. No matter what your niche is, you will find several brands to work with.
If you haven’t heard of Amazon affiliate program, you probably live in a far away province with no technology. Seriously, Amazonis the affiliate program that every blogger out there is using and recommending, and there is a reason for that.
Amazonhas everything you could ever think of, and everybody orders things from that site. When you promote Amazon products as an affiliate, you start at a 4% commission but can make a bigger percentage with the more sales you generate through your site. Ain’t that cool?
CJ ( Commission Junction) is great for those of you who are looking to work with big brands. This affiliate program is well known for being the largest affiliate marketing network in north America. You name a brand, they have it. Not bad huh?
Macy’s, Sephora, Walmart, Asos, … They’re all at there! Rakuten has been voted as the number 1 affiliate network, and when you see how many great brands they have, you can understand why. It’s kinda like the king of affiliate programs. I like Rakuten because it’s easy to navigate through, and find new brands to work with.
